Do you offer translation services?

While our staff is multilingual our services do not include translations. However we can recommend the following translation services that align with our values and linguistic philosophy: 
Catherine Diallo is a trained lawyer and a certified German, French, and English translator. Furthermore, she can provide Spanish and Italian translations into English via her network. Among her clients are law firms, corporations and individuals that require legal, financial or business translations. Documents such as official documents, contracts, wills and financial reports are some of the text types Catherine specializes in. You can get started immediately by signing up for the LPC mailing list to receive information about language learning, research and language policy trends. You can also review the free downloadable material to review the Multilingual Ideological Orientations (MIO) framework and reflect on your own/your organization's place within the framework. You can also schedule a one on one meeting for coaching or consulting to use mixed methods analysis and receive expert recommendations on your placement within the framework and how to move towards a more promotion orientated language policy.

What if we only speak one language?

Q:

There is language diversity even within a language. Consider how you are connecting with your deaf community or your blind community who identify as English speakers. Consider how English is spoken in New York, compared to Texas, compared to California. Understanding how language is used and what beliefs we have around language helps us to identify how we create opportunities for multilinguals which makes our practices and policies more inclusive.

Language policies can be implicit as well as explicit. Although you may not have implemented explicit language policy, you are making decisions about language regularly, from the signs (visual, text, language) to the way you interact. Creating an awareness around the decisions you make and how they impact language communities helps to address equitable practices.

All organizations have language policies, the difference is some organizations are intentional about their language policies while others may be implementing implicitly (unintentionally). In order to be thoughtful about your language policy and have intended outcomes it is recommended to schedule a needs assessment with LPC.
